MA in Health Education Programs

Candidates for the Master of Arts in school health education should have an undergraduate background in health or health-related areas. When candidates have degrees in other areas, they may be required as part of the program to complete course work in addition to the requirements of the graduate program: human biology (anatomy and physiology), health-related courses, and education courses.

How do I apply for the Ma in Health Education program?

In addition to a completed application for graduate admission and application fee, applicants must submit:  

  • Official transcripts from all Universities attended
  • Final transcript stating Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year institution
  • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) exam results (Required for the Health Education GATE and In-service programs)
  • Two Letters of recommendation 
  • Essay
  • Resume is preferred

NYSED Regulations for Teacher Education Programs

All programs leading to teacher, leader and pupil personnel certification comply with the following grade requirements from the New York State Education Department Office of Teaching Initiatives:

  • Content and Pedagogical Core Courses – Only courses with a grade of C or above for undergraduate level, and B- or above for graduate level courses are acceptable toward meeting content core requirements.
  • General Core in Liberal Arts & Sciences – The minimum grade requirement does not apply to coursework to satisfy the general core requirements, except where specified in certain coursework requirement descriptions.
